Disturbing news come from Gwoza town in Borno state, as Boko Haram members now allegedly use captured police college as their training grounds and its instructors as teachers. The Federal Government of Nigeria made a highly-controversial statement on August 29, 2014, Friday, promising to ensure stable power supply by October 2014. This has been contained in the statement by the Minister of Power Prof Chinedu Nebo, who declared at the State House, Abuja, while briefing the newsmen upon the termination of a meeting hosted by Vice President Namadi Sambo. The minister attributed the improvement to the fact of improved gas supply for Nigeria. He explained that repair and maintenance works at major facilities were coming to an end. The mothers and fathers of the over 200 girls who were kidnapped from Chibok in Borno have lost hope that their daughters can be found alive. They said that they had already performed funeral rites for their daughters in their minds and now only wanted to officially bury their corpses. The girls were abducted 131 days ago and despite constant reassurances from the government that they would be found, they are still missing. The parents are now urging the government to at least return their daughters’ bodies so that they can receive honourable burials. This decision was revealed at the meeting of the #BringBackOurGirls movement in Abuja yesterday, August 22, 2014 in commemoration of the 130th day of the girls’ abduction. Commercial sex workers in India have been warned to stay away from African clients due to the Ebola virus which is currently plaguing some countries in the Western part of the continent. The directive was given to prostitutes operating in India’s largest city, Kolkata, Sonagachi. Durbar Mahila Samanwaya Committee, an Indian NGO informed a gathering of 130,000 sex workers about the risks involved if contact was made with an Ebola patient. The DMSC also provided training for different classes of sex workers to enable them know if a person had been infected with Ebola.

According to reports, the father of music legend, Innocent “2face” Idibia is dead. Pa Michael Idibia took his final breath this evening at an undisclosed hospital in Abuja after a battle with prostate cancer. He was diagnosed of the disease earlier this year and 2face broke the news during the Committee Encouraging Corporate Philanthropy (CECP) cancer charity event which held on June 8, 2014 at the Eko Hotel & Suites in Lagos. After 65 days, the Nigerian Medical Association, NMA, has suspended its strike. They made the announcement on their official twitter handle yesterday, and today, NMA president, Kayode Obembe, told journalists that the association decided to suspend the strike because of the Ebola outbreak.  The General Secretary of the NMA, Dr.Adewunmi Alayaki also told reporters that the NMA decided to suspend the strike after several meetings with the Nigerian health authorities. He did not disclose in details the outcome of the meetings but stated that all striking doctors are expected back to work at 8:00 AM tomorrow  (Monday) morning.
